Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary

        Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary also called Cape Calimere and Kodikkarai.it is low headland Coromandel Coast, of Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India. The Calimere Wildlife includes the cape and three natural habitat types: dry evergreen forests, mangrove forests, and wetlands. It also gets large wintering populations of Greater Flamingos in India. It is bestowed with population of varied wild life such as Chital, Wild boar, Green-billed Malkoha,Bonnet macaque, Black Buck, Flamingoes, Teals, Gulls, Grey partridge, Blue-tailed Bee-eater. Terns, Plavers and Stilts. it is a mix of salt swamps, Mangroves, backwaters, mudflats, Common iora., grasslands and Tropical dry evergreen forests.

         India's greatest avian spectacles is calimere. Dolphins and Turtles are quite common in Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary. Best time to visit in Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary is - November to April. Open Season Throughout the year .the climate of Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuar 200C - 400C. Flamingo House is a rent house in Kodikkarai it also called as Poonarai illam. Point Calimere is also derived with the mythological Hindu epic, called Ramayana. The forests of Point Calimere, also called as Vedaranyam forests. The forest is fully dry evergreen forests. The unique Tropical Dry Evergreen forest of the sanctuary houses more than 150 species of medicinal plants. Manikara hexandra, nearby called Palai, is an important speices of the sanctuary.
