Yercaud

         Yercaud is a hill station near Salem, Tamil Nadu, and India in the Servarayan range (anglicized as Shevaroys) of hills in the Eastern Ghats . It is at an altitude of 1,500 metres (4,920 feet) from mean sea level. Yarcadu also called as lake forest. Yercaud is good cultivation for coffee plantations and orange groves. It also has an orchidarium run by the Botanical Survey of India. The climate of Yercaud is a moderate one. Winters are fairly mild, which starts in the month of September and ends in December. During winter, the hills are covered by mist. In winter is 25* C - 12* C and in Summer is 30* C - 16* C. Wild life includes bison, deer, rabbits, hares, foxes, mongoose, squirrels, partridges,monkeys, snakes, bulbuls, kites, sparrows, swallows and the bird of paradise.

There are no wet lands in Yercaud Taluk. Coffee is leading plantation in yercadu. At first, Coffee was cultivated in "Grange Estate" in the year 1820. Coffee plant was brought from Africa to Yercaud by the then collector Thiru. Cock burn in the year 1820. The highest point in Yercaud is the Servarayan temple, which is located at a height of 5326 feet.


The Yercaud hill area is called Shevaroy Hills. It is a pool surrounded by gardens and well-wooded trees. It is the paradise for nature lovers. The place is filled with heavenly fragrances of innumerable varieties of flowers and spices thriving in the premises of Green house. Yercaud has developed into a major trekking destination in the region. A lot of treks are organized here. An important unique feature of Yercaud is its forests that have existed for decades are the home to some of the most exotic species of flora and fauna. Besides, the hill resort is less expensive than its counterparts in other parts of the country. Yercaud is not hot during summers and less too cold during winters, it is providing a well-controlled weather the year round.
