The Nilgiris, because of its natural atmosphere and pleasant climate, was a place of Special attraction for the touisist. The Nilgiri Hills are consists of a larger mountain chain known as the Western Ghats. 'Nilgiris' means Blue hills neelam-blue and the giri-hill or mountain. The term niligris words comes from Silappadikaram. The violet blossoms of 'kurinji' flower in niliigris enveloping the hill ranges periodically. The Nilgiri Hills, are a range of mountains with at least 24 peaks above 2,000 meters in the western most part of Tamil Nadu at the junction of Karnataka and Kerala states in Southern India. They are part of the larger Western Ghats mountain chain making up with the southwestern edge of the Deccan Plateau. The height of the hills in the Blue Mountain range consists of 2,280 and 2,290 metres, the highest peak being Doddabetta is the highest peak of an height of 2,623 metres.

Udhagamandalam (ooty) is the Headquarters of Nilgiris, niligris High above the sea level, situated at the junction of the two ghat ranges of the Sahayadri Hills, Nilgiri latitudinal and longitudinal dimensions are 130 km (Latitude: 11° 08' to 11° 37' N) by 185 km (Longitude: 76° 27' E to 77° 4' E). middle location is 11°22'30?N 76°45'30?E / 11.375°N 76.75833°E. the hills or mountain district are separated from the Karnataka plateau to the north side by Moyar River and from the south side by Palghat Gap. And from west side kerala and from the north mysore. niligris has an area of 2,479 square kilometers. Sahayadri Hills, Nilgiri are two ghats, situated at High above the sea level.
'Nilgiris' means Blue hills Mountain, it is one of the most important tourists spots. Nilgiris temperate climate also attracts visitors from all over the world. The main cultivation is plantation Crops, are Tea and Coffee. Potato,beet root,and other vegetables. niligris receives rain from South West Monsoon and North East Monsoon. The economy of the Nilgiris district is based on horticulture crops like potato, cabbage, carrot, tea, coffee, spices and fruits.the climate of niligris in Summer : Max. 25°C, Min. 10°C and in Winter : Max. 21°C, Min. 5°C Rainfall 1,960 mm..best time visit November to December & April to July. The word niligris came from Silapathikaram. It is also called as Greenland. Niligris have a more number old varieties of plants from Europe and South Africa.
