        Madurai is one of the most important cities in South India, Madurai is famous of Meenakshi Temple is Situated on the banks of river Vaigai, Madurai has a rich cultural heritage passed on from the great Tamil era more than 2500 years old. Tourists are place by its miles of unspoiled beach and rock-cut art. Madurai was an important cultural and commercial centre even as early as 550 AD. It was the capital city of great Pandya kings. This city was henceforth known as Madhurapuri. Madurai is famous for Jasmine Flowers. Madurai is capable with a rich cultural heritage and glorious tradition. Temples, monuments and ancient cultural wonders flourish in Madurai. It is also called 'The Athens of the East'. Madurai's Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is one of the greatest architectural marvels of India. Built by Pandya King 'Kulasekara' and reconstructed later by Ruler Thirumalai Nayak, the temple has patronized literature, art, music and dance ever since its start. The entire city is built around the Meenakshi Amman temple. Madurai Meenakshi temple attracts six thousand visitors a day and gets an annual revenue of sixty million. It attained 26th place in the list of top nominees for the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Madurai an area of 109 km2 with a Location of 9° 55" 59'N, 78° 7" 0'E. the temperature in summer Max: 37.5"C and Min: 26.3" C Winter Max: 29.6"C and Min: 20.9"C. an Altitude of 100.58 Meters above sea level.

Madurai is closely associated with the literary wealth of Classical and Modern Tamil. The crowning glory of this historic city is the sprawling Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple.
