        This sea side city with majestic hills, vibrant sea shores and fringed coconut groves attract tourists round the year to enjoy the bath taking beauty of the marvelous temples, sandy beaches and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. This place has been a great center for art, culture, civilization, and pilgrimage for years. It was also a famous center for commerce and trade. It is said that views of sunrise and sunset over the water is mind blowing and very rare of its kind in the world. Beaches of Kanyakumari look like rainbow, because sand is multicolored here. India, the sub-continental country is known for its richness in culture and tradition. Speaking of the topography of India, The Land that is located in the tip of the country, where the three seas get united is none other than cape comerin or Kanyakumari. The beach itself is a beautiful site with multi-cloured sand. There is a lighthouse from where can get a panoramic view.

The Government museum offers a fine gathering of sculptural art crafts of Tamil Nadu. Souvenirs and handicraft articles made from sea shells and palm leaf articles are the main items to buy at Kanyakumari. There are several shops selling these articles. Prices vary depending upon your bargaining power. It is an area of 25.89 sq. kms. Altitude Sea Level. summer climate 34.8º c 22.4º c and the winter 34.8º c 22.4º c. The season to visit throughout the year. Languages spoken here are Tamil, Malayalam and English. The sunset and moonrise can be seen almost simultaneously on full moon days from the same spot. It is a unique spectacle. The Kannyakumari sea have are two rocks famous as 'twin rocks' both contributing to the rich Indian heritage with the monuments of swamy Vivekananda and Saint Thiruvalluvar. The Kumari Amman or the Kanyakumari Temple, located on the shore, is dedicated to a expression of Parvati, the virgin goddess who did penance to obtain Lord Shiva's hand in marriage.


        The temple and the bordering ghat, attractively situated overlooking the shore, attract tourist from all over the world. The diamond nose-ring of the deity is famous for its sparkling splendor said to be visible even from the sea. Two rocks reach out of the ocean, southeast of the Kumari Amman temple. The Chaitra Purnima Festival (the April full-moon day, celebrated in the first week of May), Navratri (last week of October), and the Holy Annual Festival of the Roman Catholic Church (fourth week of December) are the extraordinary festivals celebrated in Kanyakumari. The sangam and Vivekananda's Rock are Major Attractions of Kanyakumari.



The Sangam
Sangam is the meeting point of the three major bodies of water, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean are gives Kannyakumari an important pilgrim centre.

Vivekananda's Rock
Kanyakumari is famous for Vivekananda's rock, a huge stone rising out of the sea, on which Swami Thiruvalluvar is the immortal poet of Tamil Nadu and has given to the world Thirukkural. It is built on the same spot where Swami Vivekananda spent some of his time meditating. Keeping this in mind, the temple also has a meditation hall. So if you want to get rid of all the worldly tensions, take some time out and sit in the hall meditating all your problems away. From ancient times, even before the temple was built, the rock was considered a sacred place and was known as 'Sripada Parai' meaning that the rock is blessed by the touch of feet of 'Devi Kumari'. Feel the spirituality of the place by sighting the divine footprints of the Goddess, which is visible on the rock.
