Coimbatore

        Coimbatore is the third largest city of the state of tamilnadu. It is one of the most industrialised cities in Tamil Nadu, Known as the textile capital of South India or the Manchester of the South.it have a banks of the river called noyyal. The name was changed to Coimbatore and it is by this name that it is known today, except in Tamil, in which it is called Kovai.

The total land area of Coimbatore is 23.5 square kilometers. The population of this city is 1,446,034 during the year 2001. The altitude is 411 meters above mean sea level. The STD code for Coimbatore is 0422.The clothing here is tropical and the season to visit the city is all through the year. The people of various states lives here and they speak Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English and Marathi. This is one of the top most industrial cities of Tamilnadu. The city is situated on the banks of the River Noyyal. There are proper facilities of transportation through air (peelamedu airport), through bus and through rail (Coimbatore Junction and Podanur Junction).

This place was dominated by the Cholas. There were other kings of various dynasties who ruled this part and finally the British regions ruled this place and name it Coimbatore. Now in Coimbatore more over 5000 small, medium, and large textile mills. The black soil, good rains and water resources had made this place a major agricultural centre. Cotton is grown is mass and this made Coimbatore a textile city. Today Coimbatore is also called as the Manchester of South India. This is also the Textile capital of South India. The other major industries are machinery, textile machinery , automobile spares, textiles,motors, electronics, and steel and aluminum foundries. Coimbatore still remains one of the most pollution free cities in India. The rich fertile soil and tropical climate is excellent for the growth of millet, paddy, cotton, tea, oil seeds and tobacco. The city is also famous for educational institutions. Coimbatore Agricultural University is renowned as one of the good colleges in South Asia. Besides from ndustrial and technological growth, traditions and age old customs are still held in high appreciate. The temples bear witness to the religiousness and love of art and architecture of the people. The Mariamman festivals, at the city's numerous Amman temples, is a major event in summer. This is one of the most popular festivals celebrated along with Koniamman temple car festival. Car festivals at the Karamadai temple and The famous Avinashi temple attract a large attendance.
