Marina Beach

        Marina Beach is a beach in the city of Chennai (Madras), India, along the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean. The beach runs a distance of about 12 km. The Marina is primarily sandy, with small huts shops. It is the second largest beach in the world. The Indian legends statue also can be found here like Mahatma Gandhi, Thiruvalluvar, Sir Thomas Munro, Kamarajar, Avvaiyar, Thanthai Periyar Kannagi etc. The 13-kilometre long Marina Beach forms the city's east coast, from Fort St. George and with light house which stands 48m above sea level and offers a panoramic view of the city as the way to Mahabalipuram and is one of the longest beaches in the world. bathing and swimming can be dangerous strictly prohibited in this beach. A visit to the Marina Beach is an best experience for a traveller.

At one end of the beach is Anna Square where the former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Dr. C.N.Annadurai was buried. Next to the Anna Sqaure is MGR Samathi and a beautiful park. This is a memorial for Dr.M.G. Ramachandran, the former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and also a former film hero. The tomb has an imposing memorial Pillar and an eternal flame.

The beach can be visited in early mornings and in the evenings. In evenings many food stalls, shops, hawkers and many entertainers for kids, horse riding are found in marina beach. children's best entrainment is a Kite flying at the beach. There are other attractions too that are spotted around the Marina Beach. The most important among them is 'The Aquarium'. The place boasts off some of the most exotic collection of tropical sea fishes and fresh water fishes. The aquarium gives a chance to have a closer look at the aquatic life. Situated nearby are the memorials of Anna and MGR.

Some of the most gorgeous buildings in Chennai such as the University of Madras, Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive. At the other end of the beach is the new lighthouse. A good number of beach tourists can be seen swimming, surfing and playing beach volley ball along Marina. Kids making sand castles, the appearance of the fishermen boats, horse rides, lantern lit shops and stalls, picturesque view of old buildings and refreshing parks and of course the splendid view of the sunset are some of the best features at Marina Beach.
